IMPERIAL PALM TREE IN THE SQUARE IN BRAGANÇA PAULISTA CITY, WITH MY "FLOWER".

BRAGANÇA PAULISTA CITY - SAINT PAUL - BRAZIL.
In 1797, José Nogueira, Geraldo Nogueira and João Nogueira Bueno, lived in Conceição do Jaguary [Bragança Paulista city], where at that time there were only 25 houses inhabited. This year, many citizens, including the Nogueira [Walnut], signed a petition asking the emancipation of the place.

The Imperial Palm (Roystonea oleracea (Palmae) or Oreodoxa oleracea), also called royal palm, palm is a native of the West Indies. It belongs to the genus of Arecaceae Roystonea botanical family. It was acclimated by the French in the botanical garden La Gabrielle, located in French Guiana and then transferred to the Jardin de Pamplemousse, Mauritius. Great landscape effect tree is aristocratic symbol in the national literature. Its wood provided with perforations, the vascular bundles, where water and nutrients flow to the cup can be used for construction. The palm is edible.

In Brazil, the first copy of Roystonea oleracea, Palma Mater, was planted in the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro by the Prince Regent Dom João VI in 1809. Outside presented to Dom João VI by one of the survivors of a frigate, the official Armada Real Luis Vieira e Silva. For a historical mistake, I was said that had been brought from Gabrielle Garden, where they came from many plants, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars

However Garden Gabrielle was in Guyana and the first plants that arrived in Brazil, in fact, came from Mauritius, La Pamplemousse Garden, clandestinely obtained by Luiz Vieira de Abreu e Silva, that offered Dom João VI. When it was planted by Dom João VI, the first Roystonea oleracea (Palmae) Brazilian became known as imperial palm . The Palma Mater flourished for the first time in 1829. This specimen planted in 1809, descended all-imperial palms of Brazil, hence its name of Palma Mater. The Palma Mater was destroyed by lightning in 1972.

I had at that time, 38.70 meters high. The trunk has been preserved and is on display at the Botanical Museum. Instead, another copy was planted symbolically called Filia Palma, derived from an original palm tree seed. According Roseli Maria Martins d 'Elboux, history teacher and fundamentals of architecture and urban planning, planting the imperial palms became common in Rio de Janeiro in the mid-nineteenth century, before the "need of the symbolic strengthening of the Second Empire."It may be coming the story that the seeds of imperial-palm were distributed to subjects as proximity signal or loyalty to the central government and have thus become the "Empire" symbol. "So, after a few years, the species is linked to definitively the image of monarchical power, the idea of nobility, distinction and class".
