Abstract. The objective of this study was to experimentally determine the heat capacity of a calorimeter and the specific heat of an aluminum test specimen. Using the principle of energy conservation and heat exchange within an isolated system, values of 49.76 cal/ºC for the calorimeter and 0.137 cal/(g·ºC) for the aluminum were obtained. The discrepancy regarding the tabulated value of 0.22 cal/(g·ºC) was primarily due to heat losses during handling. (...)
