HMS Illustrious
HMS Illustrious is the UK’s High Readiness Helicopter and Commando Carrier. This means that Illustrious can fulfil multiple taskings as demanded by higher authority. Duties could include the use of helicopters such as Merlin, Sea King, Lynx or Apache and Royal Marines Commandos.

COMMANDER:
Martin Connell Joined Britannia Royal Naval College in 1987 graduating as a Naval College Entrant (Aviator). Following flying training he spent his early career at sea in various frigates and destroyers first as a Lynx Observer and then as an Officer of the Watch.

HMS Daring
  
HMS Daring is the first of the Navy’s six £1bn Type 45 destroyers and in early 2012 she was the first of class to deploy with a seven-month stint in the Gulf protecting shipping and working with regional partners, spending 139 days at sea, visiting 12 different countries, and travelling more than 34,643 nautical miles.

COMMANDER:
Cdr Angus Essenhigh joined the Navy in 1992 as a University Cadet and after basic training obtained a degree in French, Russian and Philosophy from Durham University.

HMS Dauntless
HMS Dauntless, the second of the Type 45 destroyers, joined the Fleet in November 2010, shortly after being the first of class to fire the new Sea Viper missile.

 COMMANDER:
 Adrian Fryer was born in Greater Manchester in 1971. Spending the majority of his formative years on Anglesey, he was educated at Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones in Amlwch and gained a BSc(Hons) in Maritime Geography from Cardiff University before joining the Royal Navy in 1992.

HMS Portland
HMS Portland, the fastest and most fearless Type 23 frigate in the Royal Navy. HMS Portland is one of the youngest Type 23 frigates in the Royal Navy, having been commissioned on 3 May 2001.

COMMANDER:
Sarah West was born and educated in Lincolnshire. She graduated from the University of Hertfordshire with an Honours Degree in Mathematics prior to joining Britannia Royal Naval College in September 1995 as a Warfare Officer. Initial training appointments included HMS Battleaxe, HMS Sandown and HMS Sheffield deployed in the Gulf.

HMS Vanguard
HMS Vanguard was the first of the four submarines of her class to be launched, on 4 March 1992 at Barrow. As the name-ship of the class she continued to lead the way, carrying out the first Trident missile test firing in May 1994 and the first operational deterrent patrol in early 1995. She was also the first to undergo her major mid-life refit, from 2002 to 2004, during which she was fitted with the new Core H reactor core, which will provide the power to see her through the rest of her service life.

COMMANDERS:
Paul Blythe joined the Royal Navy as a Naval College Entrant in January 1987 and completed his sea-based training in HM Ships Fife, Bulldog, Brave and Anglesey.

Sean Ryan assumed Command of HMS Vanguard (Port crew) in September 2011.
