Symbol of the First Independent Company of Military Police

The story goes that in the year 753 BC, Romulus founded the city of Rome, the birthplace of the Roman Empire. Although later known as the city of Sevens Hills has occupied the Palatine, Quirinal, Capitoline, Aventine, Virinal, Esquelino and Celia hills. Rome, in its infancy, only understood the Palatine and Capitoline hills. In the latter, was the citadel, fortificda town, permanently guarded by armed sentries, along which lived some geese. These geese were dedicated to Juno, the goddess of family life in the belief of the Romans.

Enemies of Rome, the Gauls, barbaric, warlike people, taking advantage of the negligence of the guards began to climb the capitol, and approached the citadel. The geese, however, birds better ear and lighter sleep threw themselves against the invaders, honking furiously, thereby alerting the sentries careless.

Readily attackers were dominated. Geese, more vigilant than men, prevented the Roman citadel falling into enemy hands, decisively contributing to the subsequent formation of the Empire.

Thanks to their perception, geese capitol entered history as a symbol of defense, surveillance and guard.

The 1st CIPM in his citadel also built high on a hill in constant surveillance, is, like, always attentive to defend the Guanabara Palace Roman geese. Therefore adopted as a symbol of those white geese, faithful guadiões the Eternal City.

Para marcar os 205 anos da Polícia Militar, o Arcebispo do Rio de Janeiro, Cardeal Dom Orani João Tempesta presidiu, nesta Quarta-Feira, 21 de maio, uma missa em Ação de Graças na Catedral Metropolitana. Policiais da 1ª CIPM representaram em alto nível a Polícia Militar, com fardamento 1815, em homenagem a Guarda Real de Polícia fundada em 1809.
