Recognized as a mass club, Atletico has one of the richest histories of Brazilian football.
On March 25, 1908, a group of students gathered at the bandstand the Municipal Park in Belo Horizonte. This was the event that marked the creation of Clube Atlético Mineiro, which would break the boundaries of Minas Gerais and Brazil to become one of the biggest clubs in world football. Throughout its existence, the Rooster was characterized as a team of people, which boosted, overwhelmingly, the growth of the Club.

Futsal - A galeria de troféus do Atlético é enriquecida por grandes conquistas em outros esportes.
No Futsal, o Atlético obteve o título máximo da categoria ao se sagrar Campeão Mundial de Clubes, em 1998, vencendo o Dínamo de Moscou, por 3 a 0, na Rússia.
O Futsal do Galo é, ainda, tricampeão nacional profissional (1985/97/99) e dono do recorde mundial de público na categoria: 25.713 torcedores na final da Liga Nacional de Futsal 1999, quando o Galo se sagrou tricampeão ao derrotar o Rio/Miécimo por 5 a 4.
Atletismo - Entre os inúmeros títulos no atletismo, destaca-se o da mais importante competição nacional, a Corrida de São Silvestre, vencida pelo atleta João da Mata, em 1983.
