Encenação dos momentos da História de Joanópolis pelos(as) alunos(as) do Ensino Fundamental

(Stage of the moments of the History of Town of John by the students of the Elementary School)

A história da formação do Bairro do Curralinho inicia-se quando às margens do Ribeirão Jacareí (Jacarehy), entre 1730 e 1740, começou a se formar um arraial pelos Sertanistas ou Bandeirantes que, a princípio, devido a sua localização às margens do rio, ficou conhecida pelo nome de Bairro de Jacareí. (The history of the formation of the District of Curraly begins when, on the banks of the Jacarehy River, between 1730 and 1740, a group of pioneers or Bandeirantes began to form, which, due to its location on the banks of the river, was known by the name of Neighborhood of Jacarehy.)

Com o aumento da população, os moradores da região compreendida entre o alto curso dos rios Jaguari e Cachoeira, em 1878, reuniam-se no terreno de Domingos Fernandes de Almeida e ali se construiu uma cruz, para festejar São João Batista, no dia 24 de junho de cada ano.
Naquele ano, decidiram escolher os festeiros Anselmo Gonçalves Caparica e Ambrosina Pinto para organizar anualmente essas comemorações.
(With the increase of the population, the inhabitants of the region between the high Jaguari and Cachoeira rivers, in 1878, met in Domingos Fernandes de Almeida's ground and there a cross was built there to celebrate Saint John the Baptist on the 24th June of each year.

Tiveram a ideia de construir uma pequena capela que abrigasse os fiéis nas proximidades do antigo cruzeiro. Neste ano, João José Baptista Nogueira e Luiz Antônio Figueiredo, doaram 4,5 alqueires de terra para formação de um patrimônio, onde foi erguida a capela, recebendo a povoação o nome São João do Curralinho, nos primeiros contrafortes da Serra da Mantiqueira, no território de Santo Antônio da Cachoeira (Piracaia).
Em 13 de março de 1891, através do Decreto-Lei Estadual nº 135, o povoado foi elevado a Distrito de Paz do município de Santo Antonio da Cachoeira (atual Piracaia) com o nome de São João do Curralinho. Suprimido pela Lei Estadual nº 54, de 9 de agosto de 1892 e restaurado pela de nº 207, de 30 de agosto de 1893.
(They had the idea of building a small chapel that would house the faithful near the old cruise. This year, John Yoseph Baptist Walnut and Louis Anthony Fig [tree] donated 4.5 alqueires of land for the formation of a patrimony, where the chapel was erected, receiving the name of Saint John of Curraly, on the first foothills of the Mountain of Mantiqueira, in the territory of Saint Anthony of Waterfall (now Piracaia).
On March 13, 1891, through State Decree-Law 135, the town was elevated to the District of Peace of the municipality of Saint Anthony of Waterfall (now Piracaia) with the name of Saint John of Curraly. Suppressed by State Law No. 54, of August 9, 1892 and restored by No. 207, August 30, 1893.)

Em 17 de agosto de 1895, através da Lei Estadual nº 348, foi elevada à categoria de vila com a denominação de São João do Curralinho, desmembrado de Santo Antônio da Cachoeira(hoje Piracaia). Sua instalação ocorreu no dia 21 de agosto de 1896. (On August 17, 1895, through State Law No. 348, it was elevated to the category of town with the name of São João do Curralinho, dismembered from Santo Antônio da Cachoeira. Its installation occurred on August 21, 1896.)

Em 19 de dezembro de 1906, através da Lei Estadual nº 1038, foi elevada a categoria de município. (On December 19, 1906, through State Law 1038, the category of municipality was raised.)

O município tomou a denominação de Joanópolis, através da Lei Estadual nº 1578, de 18 de dezembro de 1917, cujo significado é cidade de João, em virtude de seu padroeiro, São João Batista. (The municipality took the denomination of town of John, through State Law nº 1578, of 18 of December of 1917, whose meaning is city of John, by virtue of its patron, Saint John the Baptist.)

A finalização da construção da igreja de São João, o Baptista foi em 1919. (The completion of the construction of the church of St. John, the Baptist was in 1919.)

"UNITED BY TOWN OF JOHN"

No dia 23 de janeiro de 2001, o município foi elevado à categoria de Estância Turística, através da Lei Estadual nº 10.759. (On January 23, 2001, the municipality was elevated to the category of Tourist Resort, through State Law No. 10,759.)
