Piracaia is a municipality in the state of Saint Paul. Located at latitude 23º03'14 "south and longitude 46º21'29" West, with an altitude of 792 meters. Its estimated population in 2010 was 25,595 people. His name is Tupi origin and means "baked fish" through the junction pirá ("fish") and Kaia ("baked"). The town of Piracaia was founded on March 24, 1859, with the name of Saint Antony of Waterfall, as Nazareth Paulista neighborhood, by Dona Leonor de Oliveira Franco and his sons, who donated land to build a chapel in honor St. Anthony. The exact location of the foundation is the current Square Julio Mesquita, which was built and inaugurated on June 16, 1891, the current Church of Saint Antony of Waterfall.
In the Almanac of Piracaia, we find the name of Francis [Antony] Walnut, brother of Ignacio Walnut, mentioned as one of the first builders of the city in 1817, when his name was still village of Saint Antony of Waterfall.
